“It is impossible to dissociate the art of Vlada Mirkovic from the man and his destiny. When I first met Vlada, many years ago, he had lived as an outsider in the mountain estate of his late grandfather. He had, at this time, two unfinished pictures and numerous questions without answer; about the sense of art as a way of communication with reality, about the sense of life as an aesthetic experience… brutal happenings in the world imposed these kinds of questions. His curiosity and sensitivity to his enviroment soon made him rebel against authority, and, in a way, predestined a path seldom travelled. A couple of years before we met he organised, together with some artist friends, a performance in the streets of Belgrade. Unfortunately, its meaning was misread, resulting in a monthlong jail sentence. This experience soured his views of the social framework he lived in. He became disillusioned due to the critical view of society, rejection and punishment for what he freely wanted to express. His grandfather died, and he inherited a small farm in the mountains. It beckoned him, and he went back to the farm. However, his life in this cold mountain place did not bring him much satisfaction, except that his wife Vesna taught at the local school, and their daughter was born a few years later and became the apple of his eye.”
